Tawny is a certified CAPPA Labor doula, a trained postpartum doula, a certified yoga teacher, a certified Qoya teacher (a somatic movement practice), and a recent master's program graduate in psychology. Tawny is an experienced doula who sees the extreme importance of serving families. She views the birth continuum as critical to the family's health. She has been teaching pre- and post-natal yoga continuously since 2007. Out of deep respect for the transformation she witnessed in her students and her own experiences with the arrival of her daughter Athena, she became a doula and has supported families since 2015. With years in the wellness world of yoga, nutrition counseling, retreats, meditations, women’s circles, embodied movement class, and more - she believes in the body’s innate wisdom to birth and find wholeness. Tawny guides women into connection and care for their bodies through various modalities that integrate mind, body, and spirit. She has repeatedly witnessed the sacred and initiatory path that is birth and is honored to support families through its threshold. The postpartum period is naturally challenging for families in many ways. Having had her bumpy journey through the “fourth trimester,” she knows firsthand many ways to support this vital window better. Tawny is additionally trained in some alternative modalities that support mothers during this unique and essential time, such as ayurveda postpartum nourishment, postpartum yoga, and pelvic floor steaming, and offers group and individual postpartum ceremonies called ‘sealing or closing the bones.’ This ceremony is an opportunity and space to feel welcomed into motherhood and honor the simultaneous closing of the maiden phase. It is an honoring, a mourning, and a celebration.
